Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • - 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • - 3/4 cup white sugar
  • - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • - 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • - 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • - 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • - 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • - 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • - 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • - 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • - 6-8 tablespoons ice water

Directions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. 2. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and flour. Toss until apples are evenly coated and set aside.
  3. 3. To make the pie crust, mix flour and salt in a large bowl. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough holds together.
  4. 4. Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. 5. Roll out one disk of dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Place the rolled-out dough into the pie dish.
  6. 6. Place the apple filling into the crust.
  7. 7. Roll out the second disk of dough and place it over the filling. Seal and crimp the edges.
  8. 8. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  9. 9. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
